*THIS IS BOMBER NIGHT*

This Bomber Night mission is called “Raid on Rabaul".

It uses The Slot (1944) map, with the Shortland Is. and south Bougainville as a “Rabaul” stand-in since it has a number of airbases and fleet anchorages.  To keep flight times under control, I put the Red airbases on the midwest coast of Bougainville where the US later landed.  Historically, it’s unrealistic (with the US coming from the north), but it shortens the flight time by about 20 minutes from Vella Lavella and Munda).  It also makes navigation easier, since the planes can follow the coast to some of the target areas (after last month's
"Midway Island" Bomber Night, I wanted easy navigation this time - ha).

I’m using the B-25J-22NA strafer as the bomber (it’s got a stupid-looking skin, but has 5-6 MGs in the nose and can carry a wide variety of bombs and rockets), with the P-38L as escort.  The A6M3 Zero is the defender.  There are some AI B-17s and B-24s at high-alt to keep the defenders busy.

The ground fog is heavy when the early-morning mission starts (7:30 am), but burns off completely by 8 am; that should give the bombers a better chance on the first sortie, at low-level.

I’ve enclosed some screenshots of the main target areas without objects (seaplane bases, naval HQ, and port facilities are targets too, per the small captions) and airbases.

Too bad I'm going to miss this one. I'd love to fly a B-25 Straifer and attack Rabaul. Sad You have to run this one again later this year when I get back Mack. Looks like it will be a blast. Enjoy everyone! ~S~

Mea culpa ... again.  Sorry about the bad spawn points on Blue.  I had done testing and the planes spawned in fine.  However, it seems that, after Blue plane #10, the planes would spawn in different spots where statics were located.  We'll re-run the mission later since we quit early (and had a really good running of Henderson), and I'm fixing the Blue spawn base.  Sorry.

The bomber nights always started at 4:10 GMT, but tonight I joined server at 3:30 GMT and was surprised that the BN is running? Are all further bomber nights supposed to be started at 3:30 GMT, or that was a mistake?

Probably due to North America's Daylight Saving time being different to the rest of the world.  We switched on the 13th of March, about a month off of most countries.  Unfortunately the header information wasn't updated on the OP.
