War Thunder...

Hello Gents,
Someone posted about this new game/simulation like maybe a year ago. Appeared to be a bit arcade at a first sight, mainly because of the skins or camouflage of the aircraft...then I watched a video about the alpha testing, I was suprised that the realism options are more or less the same then in Il-2 1946. I have no idea about the flight and damage models etc, the cockpit details are not arriving to the CLOD level, in details, so to cut it short looks like an Il-2 on some steroids. Sounds are really neat, and ther is a huge variety of flyables ( this also worries me a bit).
Once I made the maiden flight I will give some feedback on realims and stuff. My feeling is that it won´t arrive to the CLOD level of realism, but if it reaches the il-2 1946, and the graphics are as in this video it is an interesting horizont. Anyways even Il-2 1946 is kind of an arcade game compared to the Cliffs of Dover or a DCS A-10 / P-51, despite of all the refinements in flight models etc.
In the video they go for an airstart, so my concers about the arcadeness appears to be fundamented. Big question is the damage models for example and of course the community. I guess most of the guys are no up to the kind of "full real" mentality that is present here.
I think signing up for beta testing is still open.

Well what can I say...the sounds are really nice! at 25:00 of the above video few shots fired...hm..finally sounds like a gun not like this "tststststs" sound as in Il-2 or even in ClOD....engines and diving sounds cool too...

VERY interesting!
Seems somewhere in between IL-2 and ClOD.
Is there an English version of this same or similar vid?

Hm I found mostly Russian stuff...also could be a concern map/mission building. I guess participating in beta could be a way to find out how it goes.

Our squad have been testing for sometime now
and the response is all good
this is technically? a sequel to 1946, it runs on the same engine as wings of prey but has fixed all the unrealistic qualities of that game. massive variety of planes too.

What about the realism Deuce? I watched the videos, I don´t like too much the big "A"-s hanging in the air at a waypont neighter that "hit" coming up when you hit something. Is there a way to get rid of it?

hello
so as i see it the full game name is war thunder:
world of planes
and it will probably be arcade as world of tanks,
I do not believe they will go for air combat Sim game, its just does not pay off. I believe it will be same principle as WoT, loots of fast fights and fun explosions, skins, upgradeable planes, guns and etc... and not to much realism

War thunder is unrelated to that as its based on Il2: Birds of prey.
The name was actually changed because it used to be called just "World of Warplanes" at the same time they were also making "World of Planes", which is the completely unrelated World of Tanks sequel. Eventually it all just got to confusing and they added War Thunder to the name.

they relay know how to pick a name
i did play wings of pray or IL2: Birds of prey, and still that was not real Sim even with all settings on realism, and multiplayer was just awfully , so still i don't expect to much from gaijin with this new title, il2 1946 will still be the best on my pc
would like to hear some info from some one who played this game

Played it for a little bit, don't know if there are other modes but the default online mode seems pretty terrible.
Flight model feels like baby's first flying game, complete with impossibility to stall and the "PUSH YOUR NOSE DOWN YOU'RE GOING SLOW" warnings when you try to force a stall. Controls feel springy and inaccurate, also the rudder turns the aircraft reliably and fast around its horizontal axis.
Got behind a Stuka in an I16, his gunner instantly smokes my engine. Come around for another pass, his gunner gets another hit on me this time blowing up my entire plane.
Maybe there's a way to activate more advanced flight controls, but the most advanced option I could find only got me the results described above. And what's the point if you're flying with people who are flying on easymode controls, or even mouse controls.
Graphics are really pretty though.
I'm going to try it some more later, but it was a pretty dissapointing first encounter.

I would be interested to know if (at all) there is the ability for mission developers to create online missions?

Well it's an MMO, so I sort of doubt it. You play online in an automatch system, you make XP, you progress through tiers and you unlock new planes. How would they make any money if you could just cirmumvent this system? Unless I'm missing some major part of this game that anyone else who has it can explain to me?
There is a historical battle mode, but I just assume that to be a preset scenario with plane choice limitations.
EDIT: Well on further inspection it seems like they are implementing both an f2p MMO part for online with premium possilities, and a premium payment for certain other functionalities like a mission editor etc?
