.50 BMG Effectiveness- Extreme Example
«

Coming in for a diving 7 o'clock pass at a B-25C on Alam Halfa, just as I start to pull the trigger, the 25's gunners hit my Bf109E7/B. According to the post-mission stats, only 4 (that's right, just FOUR) bullets hit my airplane. In that one "hit" I lost ALL controls: elevators, rudder, and ailerons. If the plane hadn't pitched up for whatever trim reason, I wouldn't have been able to bail out.

I was about to make a similar thread, the only difference being that it was a 7.92 round from a Stuka into a Spitfire.
MGs are so overpowered.

I will add the me110 rear gunner on the Donnerkiel map where I was player killed through a bullet proof windscreen of a hurricane whilst 500m away and below the tail!
but. lets be honest, who would fly bombers if the rear gunners were really as effective as they were in reality?
leave em as they are or even make em more dangerous as far as I am concerned!

Funny, I just put up a thread along similiar lines with this piece of data, asking where it came from, when etc.
UK testing of a 109F fuselage found that the .50 AP round would not penetrate the 7/8 inch laminated dural bulkhead protecting the fuel tank, even at ranges of 100 m, from dead astern (the problem with yaw).

I understand your enthusiasm here, and I am not being disrespectful, but the original poster was talking about the IL2 game and that is what we are discussing here and what happens when the rear gunner fires automatically when the enemy fighter comes within range, and not what happened in real life.

My bad I suppose. I had thought realism, hence what actually happenned in combat was what these games attempted to emulate.

oh dear, if you want realism we're going to have to rip the whole game up and start again!

And then turn off your PC and step outside.

A.I. gunner's are sniper's
The 409 patch was supposed to fix that (I read some where) but did not
I don't know how many time's I got hit by the magic golden BB but it's just part of the game you have to live with
