Data for SM-79 firing Type W 170/450 torpedo:

Altitude:   70-100m
Speed: 255-290 kph

(recommend full 'UP' elevator trim at lower speeds to hold altitude)

Now... are other alt/speed combinations possible?  Yes, but things tend to get a little loopy.

You'll note that at higher altitudes the minimum speed increases and the usable speed band gets narrower.  At lower altitudes, you must go slower but the maximum speed drops down, too, leaving a very slim usable window...  and at these low speeds you'll also have a hard time staying in the air.

Alt.                  Speed
110m               270-290 kph
100m               255-290 kph
 90m               240-290 kph
 80m               240-290 kph
 70m               240-290 kph
 60m               240-265 kph
 50m               235-250 kph
 40m               220-240 kph

 Additional notes:
Q: "Why did you post the minimum speed as 255 kph when you can fire at 240 kph from 70-90m?"
A:  If you're flying at 95m and don't notice that your plane is slowly climbing you may drop your torpedo at an altitude closer to 100m and a speed of 240 kph isn't going to work.  Minimum speed of 255 kph gives you a little extra room for error at the lower altitudes.

Q:  "Will speeds faster than 290 kph work?"
A:   Yes.  At higher altitudes you can drop torpedoes at speeds of 295, 300, etc... but you'll be overheating the engines.  The SM-79 will cruise all day at 290 kph so I confined my data using that as the top speed.
